Explore Byron Bay’s ever-popular The Farm

The Farm is many things: a destination, a working farm, a rustic eatery, a source of education, a produce market, and more. With a future-focused philosophy based on the nourishment of community and environment, The Farm’s hospitality, educational, and agricultural endeavours contribute toward a more harmonious existence with the land. The Farm’s motto ‘Grow, Feed, Educate’ represents this ethos.

Whether you throw yourself headfirst into an ethical farming workshop, or treat yourself to a meal of local produce at Three Blue Ducks, a visit to The Farm is not only memorable, but inspirational. If you’ve got ‘48 Hours in Byron’ and need a good itinerary, make sure The Farm is on it.

A Working Farm

The Farm stretches over 80 acres of stunning hinterland off Ewingsdale Road, about 4.5 kilometres (8-minute drive) from Elements of Byron.

A vibrant community of growers run the large produce farm, using sustainable farming methods without nasty chemical sprays. The seasonal produce is then sold in The Produce Store, and used by the talented chefs at Three Blue Ducks.

As well as fruits and veggies, The Farm is home to three kinds of livestock: pigs, poultry, and cows. The animals are permitted to roam the paddocks, and fed a natural, healthful diet. Like the fruit and vegetables, The Farm’s free-ranging livestock is sold in The Produce Store, and served at Three Blue Ducks.

In addition to checking out a working farm, here’s a recap of what else should be on your radar when visiting The Farm.

The Produce Store embodies The Farm’s desire to provide the community and its visitors with fresh, sustainable, locally grown produce. The Produce Store is stocked with fruits, vegetables, meat, deli items, artisan wares, and unique gifts, all local, and sourced from The Farm when possible.

Alongside The Produce Store is The Bread Social, an artisan bakehouse stocking bio-dynamic sourdoughs and mouth-watering pastries. The bakery uses mostly local and organic ingredients, which are then expertly transformed by Byron’s baking legends.

Dining at Three Blue Ducks

The Produce Store, cafe, and restaurant at The Farm are run by Three Blue Ducks. ‘The Ducks’, as they are affectionately referred to, offer visitors wholesome, ethical food in a unique setting. Produce is sourced from The Farm and local region, with an emphasis on sustainability and organic or spray free farming practices.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the rustic restaurant features a large outdoor patio with panoramic views of Byron’s beautiful hinterland, including glimpses of Mt Warning. The 12m outdoor kitchen, Argentinian grill, and wood fire pizza oven add to the authentic dining experience.

Looking for something a bit different? Three Blue Ducks offer picnic hampers, complete with cutlery and plates, which can be enjoyed on the picturesque fields surrounding The Farm.

Education at The Farm

In keeping with their motto, ‘Grow, Feed, Educate’, The Farm hosts an interesting range of workshops and education opportunities. From bee keeping and ethical farming to organic growing and natural building, the inspiring courses at The Farm are unlike any other.

There are plenty of learning opportunities for kids too. The Farm encourages children to play and learn by witnessing the processes and practices of a real-life, working farm. Their educational program, ‘Farm Kids’, introduces concepts such as the importance of bee pollination and composting to younger kids.

As well as weekly workshops and special kids activities, visitors to The Farm can take a daily tour around the property. The walking tour gives an in-depth insight into the sustainable farming practices taking place.

KidsKlub and The Farm Byron Bay have partnered to bring you ‘Farm Kids’.

Farm Kids inspires and educates children through various programs around how food is grown, and ethical farming practices such as the importance of pollination, paddock rotation for animals and composting. Farm Kids programs give children the opportunity to gain a new understanding and appreciation for our land, animals, and community, all whilst having fun!

The Farm Kids programs run during the school holidays and on some Sundays.
