Discover Byron Bay’s Creative Hub – Shops, Galleries and More

The Arts and Industrial Estate is a hidden gem and visitors who fail to unearth it risk missing out on the complete Byron experience. Filled with boutique stores, wellness spaces, cafes and art galleries, it’s a place to discover the latest artisan fashions, stunning artwork and unbound creativity.

Better yet, it’s walkable from the resort, easily navigated by bike or car and can be reached easily from town via the Byron Solar Train.

Find your way around the Arts and Industry Estate, as well as other Byron Bay destinations, by accessing this range of Village Guide maps. We’ve also listed some of the highlights of the A&I Estate below.

A brief history of a cultural revolution

Since the arrival of hippies and surfers in the 1960’s, Byron Bay transformed from a working man’s town to a destination that celebrates a barefoot relaxed lifestyle. It’s a melting pot of creativity and inspiration: a world-famous playground for international visitors, earth lovers, healers, and the weird and the wonderful alike.

Alongside this cultural shift, a unique arts and industrial estate, has emerged and evolved just north of Byron town.

The last few years a rich cultural hub has taken shape in the Arts and Industrial Estate, becoming a magnet for local and national creative talent to open new, innovative businesses. Here, you’ll find from artists, filmmakers, beer brewers, designers, fashion houses, incredible food and it keeps growing, diversifying and becoming ever more vibrant.

Habitat | 248 Bayshore Drive, Byron Bay

A highly curated collection of homewares, clothing and beauty has made Habitat a genuine hub in the Arts and Industrial Estate.  Found on the estate’s northern boundary, Habitat is a culmination of small boutique stores focussing on men’s and women’s fashions, wellness and homewares. Many feature the wares of the region’s most talented artisans and designers. Habitat Collective is arguably the flagship of this collective. Once you’ve surveyed the collection of beautiful creations you’ll see why.

Prae is the perfect stop for wellness potions and lifestyle products. For couples shopping together there’ll be no need to delegate husbands and boyfriends to ‘the waiting chair’. You’ll find them in the Department of Simple Things for Men. Home to everything from skateboards and motorbikes to hot sauces, barbeques, clothes and even a barbershop, this boutique lives and breathes ‘Mr’. After you’ve worked up an appetite, sit down and indulge in the relaxed surroundings of Barrio, an Argentinian style eatery that serves up a mean coffee.
